When I was younger, I desperately wanted an Easy-Bake Oven. I wanted the whole look — cute mixing bowls, a fun apron, and that fancy little lightbulb oven. The funniest part, looking back, is that I think I already had full reign of the REAL OVEN. I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t baking, first with supervision, but mostly on my own. Before long, my most important Saturday chore was to make a big batch of chocolate chip cookies.

Baking has always been part of who I am, and I’m so glad this business was borne out of the stress that was the pandemic. Working from home provided extra access to my kitchen and garden, allowing me to explore the sourdough universe and experiment with bread, recipes and flavor profiles that were new and exciting. By the holidays, it was time. I filed the paperwork to begin Sundog Handmade during my holiday break and received my official registration as a cottage food producer from the MN USDA at the end of January.
